Midlife Transition: 4 Steps to Navigate Change With More Clarity and Self-Trust

Midlife is a transition—not a problem to solve

I've been developing a four-part workshop that combines coaching and yoga, and the more I work with these ideas, the more I think they're relevant far beyond the yoga studio.

Because midlife can be a particularly complicated transition. You may be questioning whether your work still has meaning. You may have less tolerance for workplace politics, ego and bullshit than you did ten years ago. You may feel frustrated by people who don't recognize what you bring to the table. You may be dealing with aging parents while raising children who are becoming increasingly independent. Your friendships may be changing. Your marriage or partnership may be changing. Your relationship with yourself may be changing.

And underneath all of this can be a growing sense that the version of you who built this life isn't necessarily the version of you who wants to live the next one. That's a big thing to sit with and it's tempting to skip the sitting-with-it part.

We want answers. We want certainty. We want to know what we're supposed to do next. But transition doesn't always work that way.

These are the four steps I keep coming back to:

Awareness. Curiosity. Trust. Action.

And the order matters.

Because we're very good at jumping straight to the last one.
